The SSA started to offer courses to shore-based shipping companies as far back as 1989. Twelve long and short part time vocational courses are currently conducted by full time professionals from the shipping industry. The courses are very well supported by the shipping companies.

The Association, through its Executive Development Programme, aims to upgrade the high level of service and professionalism of shipping staff to enhance Singapore's competitiveness as an International Maritime Centre.
