16 Dec 2025SSA launches inaugural training workshop for talent in corporate support roles.
On 4 December 2025, the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) rolled out the Everyone Onboard (EOB) Programme, a new workshop series designed to help corporate support professionals gain a deeper understanding of the maritime industry.
These professionals play a vital role behind the scenes. They work alongside technical staff to drive operational excellence and organisational success. By enhancing their industry knowledge, EOB ensures they are better connected to the maritime ecosystem and aligned with its strategic priorities.
Gallery Experience
The programme began at the Singapore Maritime Gallery, where participants explored the sector’s evolution and outlook. The immersive tour was led by Lion Heartlanders and featured interactive exhibits on Singapore’s maritime identity, Tuas Port development, sustainability efforts, and the nation’s role as a global hub.
Industry Talk 101
Following the gallery experience, attendees gathered at Paradox Singapore for Industry Talk 101 by Mr. Michael Phoon, SSA In-House Trainer and former Executive Director. He shared valuable insights on Singapore’s strategic edge and its integrated maritime ecosystem. His talk also covered long-term investments in talent, digitalisation, and international standards. Mr. Phoon’s presentation highlighted shipping’s role in not just Singapore’s economy but also that of the world.
Building Bridges Workshop
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to collaboration with “Building Bridges: The Art of Teamwork”, facilitated by Mr. Vince Sanderson. Through engaging activities such as the Paper Bridge Challenge and communication exercises, participants learned how teamwork and clear communication are essential for success in today’s dynamic maritime landscape.
The EOB Programme is more than a training programme. It is a platform for inclusivity, learning, and collaboration. By empowering every individual working in the maritime ecosystem, SSA aims to strengthen the industry’s foundation for a resilient and interconnected future.
“Singapore’s maritime sector is the lifeblood of global trade—a dynamic ecosystem of innovation and critical infrastructure. The EOB Programme has equipped me with an insightful overview of this industry. I have grown to better appreciate our role in supporting the industry. Through the workshop on communication, I have learnt about the importance of fostering essential communication and teambuilding skills crucial for success in any fast-paced professional environment.”
