The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) welcomed more than 500 members, partners, and distinguished guests at its annual Lunar New Year ‘Lo Hei’ Cocktail 2026, held to usher in the Year of the Fire Horse. The event brought together leaders from Singapore’s maritime community for an evening of celebration, reflection, and industry camaraderie. It also reaffirmed the community’s shared commitment to optimising relentlessly in the year ahead.
Guests were welcomed with a spirited lion dance performance that filled the venue with energy and colour. The celebration continued with the Toss of Prosperity (Lo Hei), where attendees joined in the symbolic toss for prosperity, success, and good fortune in the year ahead.

Welcoming the New Year as a Community
Following the address by Guest-of-Honour Mr. Murali Pillai, Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, SSA President Mr Teo delivered his opening remarks.
He spoke about the importance of unity and collaboration as the industry moves into 2026. While acknowledging the evolving global environment and challenges faced by the maritime sector, he emphasised the need for continued resilience, innovation, and collective effort.

What the Community can Expect in 2026
Mr Teo shared several initiatives that are a deliberate effort to relentlessly optimise business and ensure the sector remains competitive and future ready. These will support maritime businesses this year in strengthening operations, adopting new technologies, and developing talent.
He expressed strong support for Maritime Port of Authority of Singapore (MPA)’s Just-In-Time (JIT) Platform. He described it as a “very powerful tool” that will enhance maritime operational efficiency, encouraging the industry to accelerate adoption of the platform.
Mr Teo also highlighted new SSA programmes. One key programme, supported by MPA, will help companies navigate digital transformation and boost productivity.
Additionally, Mr Teo emphasised the need for businesses to be more strategic in workforce designing. He announced the roll of SSA’s Human Capital Programme that equips business with “the necessary competencies to strengthen our maritime workforce”.
The SSA Lunar New Year Cocktail was a joyous evening, made possible by the generous support of our sponsors, partners, and all who contributed.
