The event was attended by over 460 members and guests of the maritime community in Singapore. This event marks the sixth and final year of outgoing President Ms. Caroline Yang’s tenure, after she has served the maximum of three consecutive terms.
In her welcome address, Ms. Yang expressed her gratitude to SSA members; key stakeholders in MaritimeSG such as MPA, the unions SMOU and SOS, and the ports; and her fellow councillors. “Singapore Shipping Association is special, respected locally, regionally and internationally, all because of our active and engaged membership, and the Tripartism between the industry, unions and the government. Continue to fly the flag high. Thank you all. I truly had a blast.” Ms. Yang ended, thanking everyone and seeking members for their continued support for the incoming President and his council.
Succeeding Ms. Yang as President is Mr. Teo Teng Seng, who formerly served on the council as the Chair of the Digitalisation Committee from October 2020 to 2025. In his first address to members, he remarked that the industry was currently facing “one of the most unpredictable and turbulent periods in recent history”, citing decarbonisation, cyber risks, rapid expansion of technology, as well as geopolitics and economic uncertainty as key challenges.
Mr. Teo and his council are committed to serve members through these difficult times, “the key to SSA’s relevance and success lies in listening to you, our members. Together with the secretariat, we have initiatives in place to equip you with the capabilities and resources needed to navigate these changes, turning challenges into opportunities.”
