
Shaping the Future of Shipping: Finance, Sustainability, and Decarbonisation
The SSA’s Decarbonisation Committee co-hosted the 12 March 2025 session with Deloitte, and Chair of the Committee, Mr Lee Keng Lin acknowledged the finance sector as a critical partner to the industry’s decarbonisation journey in his opening remarks. Members who attended the seminar gleaned key insights from the 2024 Deloitte Shipping Survey, especially on innovative financial strategies that can help to meet global sustainability goals while navigating new regulations. Deloitte experts also stressed that finance teams must integrate sustainability into capital planning, to ensure investments support low-carbon technologies and compliance with emissions regulations.
The event also featured a panel discussion on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Finance in Achieving Sustainability Goals’, with industry leaders like Afendy Mohamed Ali, CFO of MISC Group, and Tommy Phun, Founder and CEO of Pyxis, sharing invaluable insights into their companies’ decarbonisation processes, including securing funding for new technologies such as biofuels and sustainable solutions, and navigating regulatory complexities.



Unlocking Capital: Bond Financing Solutions for Maritime Companies
This session held on 14 March 2025 explored the suitability of bond financing as a strategic financing tool for the maritime industry. Participants learnt how asset rich companies with strong cash flows and assets can leverage bonds to fuel growth, optimize capital, and navigate large-scale financing. Mr Petter Haavik, Managing Partner at Pareto Securities, and Mr Andrew Pang, Head of Corporate Finance, Eastern Hemisphere at Yinson Production presented at this session.
