On 23 May 2025, 32 participants, inclusive of HR professionals, business leaders and line managers participated in a one-day workshop that equips them with the knowledge and methodology to conduct a job redesigns in their companies.
The workshop kickstarted with an overview of sector trends impacting job roles across industries, highlighting how automation, and changing workforce expectations are driving the need to rethink how work is structured and delivered.
The IHRP trainers then introduced the concept of Job Redesign (JR) to the participants — including its objectives, frameworks, and key principles. Participants learned how JR goes beyond task reallocation, offering a pathway to enhance productivity, employee engagement, and organisational resilience.
While automation and digital tools continue to streamline operational processes, there needs to be a mindset shift towards how time saved through such transformation can be reinvested into higher-value tasks for the worker. A collaborative job redesign process, embraced by the company, line managers and individual workers, businesses to stay competitive while supporting talent development, retention, and long-term sustainability.
To help participants visualise this collaborative process, the workshop included an action-planning exercise where participants went through a step-by-step guide from mapping out business needs to the granular details in change in work processes to reimagine job roles.
Recognising that transformation requires strong leadership and communication, the workshop included a segment on change management strategies to support smooth transitions and employee buy-in.
Marco Chong, General Manager, Business Excellence at Swire Shipping said that,
“the IHRP Job Redesign Workshop gave us structured tools to assess, reshape, and align roles with our company’s evolving needs. It’s a game-changer for any transformation effort.”
