SSA remains committed to representing Singapore’s shipping community at the local, regional and international levels by being a part of various maritime organisations and bodies such as the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Association (FASA), the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
As Secretariat of FASA, SSA strengthens collaboration among ASEAN shipowner bodies, coordinates regional industry positions, and supports dialogue with governments on issues such as safe navigation, maritime security, and trade facilitation. This includes representation of the industry voice to the ASEAN Maritime Transport Workgroup, which ultimately aggregate key issues to the ASEAN Transport Ministers. SSA’s Executive Director Mr Loh Chun How also serves as the Secretary General of FASA.
Through ASA, SSA works with regional counterparts to build a coordinated Asian voice on priorities including decarbonisation, regulatory developments, and geopolitical disruptions affecting shipping. Globally, through the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), SSA helps ensure that regional perspectives are reflected in international advocacy efforts, including at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Together, these roles position SSA as an effective bridge between Singapore, the region, and the global maritime community, reinforcing Singapore’s standing as a trusted maritime hub and constructive industry leader.
Locally, SSA collaborates closely with government agencies such as the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Customs, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the Republic of Singapore Navy, and the Police Coast Guard, the last two which are complemented with partnerships with regional security platforms such as the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) and the ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre.
The 29th Annual General Meeting and Cocktail Reception were successfully held on 19 June 2025. During this AGM, the new 2025/2027 council was elected, and the council subsequently elected Mr TS Teo from Pacific International Lines (PIL) as SSA President for the term. The event welcomed over 156 member companies and more than 460 attendees.
The 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner was held on 26 September 2025 and welcomed over 2,600 members and guests. It was graced by Mr Murali Pillai, Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, alongside foreign dignitaries and representatives from China, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Japan, and Norway.
2025 marked the 40th Anniversary milestone for SSA, with a celebratory theme of ‘Beyond Resilience, Seize the Future’. A commemorative video in honour of SSA’s legacy was featured at the Gala, showcasing its history and milestones, activities, voices of past and present leaders, and reflections from SSA’s prominent members.
Throughout the year, SSA continued to organise industry networking events for its members, providing a valuable platform for them to connect, build relationships, and further strengthen the Singapore shipping community. These events included the SSA Lunar New Year ‘Lo-Hei’ Cocktail and the SSA Year End Cocktail, and welcomed over 900 attendees, consisting of SSA members, guests and key industry partners.
Apart from networking events, SSA organised closed-door events, designed for C-suite leaders and decision makers in the reporting year. These events served as exclusive platforms to engage with members in a time of trade disruptions and uncertainty amidst geopolitical tensions and conflicts, facilitating candid dialogue and knowledge sharing.
The development of maritime talent remains a key commitment of SSA. On 19 August 2025, SSA and Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising this shared commitment. Under the MoU, SSA will sponsor three to four MaritimeONE Scholarships annually, administered by SMF.
SSA has been a long supporter of the MaritimeONE scholarship programme. In the 2025/2026 fiscal year, SSA awarded scholarships to four deserving students, with total support amounting to $129,000.
Throughout the year, members of the SSA Young Executives Group (YEG) took part in volunteer activities, such as the YEG Cycle & Clean, and the Chinese New Year ILSM Waves of Care Donation Drive at Jurong Fishery Port.
In contribution to sustainability, environmental stewardship and community engagement, SSA donated 16 trees in support of SMF’s Plant-A-Tree programme. These trees were planted by SSA President Mr TS Teo and councillor Mr Joey Chua on 18 October 2025 at the Rail Corridor, alongside other corporate donors and past and present MaritimeONE scholars.
