WinningMax represents the next step in Winning International’s evolution, turning years of operational experience into a new generation of large ore carriers. By taking an active role in defining WinningMax, the Group has translated years of hands-on experience into the vessel’s design. WinningMax is tailored to the long-term logistics needs of Guinea’s Simandou iron ore project, the Boké bauxite industry and other major resource developments.
Built on Experience, Designed for Efficiency
Each WinningMax vessel has a deadweight capacity of 325,000 tonnes and a range of approximately 37,000 nautical miles. Optimised for long-haul bulk trades, its scale and design support greater economies of scale and high energy efficiency per tonne-mile, enabling more efficient resource flows with lower carbon intensity.
The first vessel, Winning Ambition, has already completed her first loading operation in Guinea, carrying approximately 320,000 tonnes of bauxite to China. This marks the transition from design concept to proven operational capability on the very trade corridor WinningMax was created to serve.
Preparing for a Lower-Carbon Future
The WinningMax design incorporates a dedicated 12,000-cubic-metre methanol fuel tank, separate from its conventional fuel system and sized to support a round voyage between China and Guinea. The configuration also enables future methanol conversion without major structural modification to the hull.
Shaft generators and high-voltage shore power systems further enhance energy efficiency, while the vessels meet EEDI Phase 3 requirements.
Together, these features reflect a practical approach to greener shipping: improving efficiency today while preserving flexibility for tomorrow’s energy transition.
Strengthening the Resource Supply Chain
For Winning, the competitiveness of a major resource project extends well beyond the mine itself. It depends on how efficiently mines, railways, ports, shipping and markets are connected within an integrated logistics system.
As the fleet expands, it will strengthen a critical maritime link in that system, supporting more efficient and resilient resource flows between West Africa and global markets.
