The SSA Lunar New Year Cocktail was an exciting night with over 500 attendees, including SSA members, distinguished guests from the maritime community and foreign representatives from Greece, Italy, Denmark and Norway.
Mr. Murali Pillai, Minister of State for Law and Transport, graced the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour.
Starting the event was an exciting lion dance, climbing the poles and unfurling a large scroll at the end that wished for ‘an abundance of luck, fortune and peace’. Guests were also encouraged to take part in the lo-hei, or a ‘toss to prosperity and good fortune’, a first for some guests.
This year also marked an important milestone for SSA, and in her speech SSA President Ms. Caroline Yang revealed SSA’s 40th Anniversary’s commemorative logo and theme: “Beyond Resilience. Seize the Future”. This describes how the maritime industry has faced – and overcame – numerous challenges and unpredictable circumstances, and “highlights how far the industry has come, and continue to thrive in the years to come”.
Tying in with the second part of the celebration theme – “Seize the Future”, Ms. Yang also touched on the Career Conversion Programme for Sea Transport sector (CCP), sharing how some member companies have benefitted from the programme and urging members to do the same, if they had yet to do so.
