10 Dec 2025Regulators, industry players and service providers unite to chart practical pathways for drone integration in Singapore’s maritime sector, driving efficiency and innovation.

The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) was honoured to join the Maritime Drone Workshop, hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Representing SSA were Services Committee Chair, Mr. Lakhbir Singh, and Executive Director, Mr. Loh Chun How.

The workshop explored practical pathways to integrate drones into Singapore’s maritime sector. This unlocks opportunities to enhance safety, efficiency and operational resilience. While many drone services remain at the proof-of-concept stage. However, the share vision is clear: collaboration between regulators, industry players and service providers to turn ideas into reality.

The session included presentations from CAAS and MPA on Singapore’s drone industry development and regulatory level facilitation of maritime drone adoption. As well as presentations on potential services from several drone operators.

Following this, Mr. Singh made a presentation on enhancing the efficiency of ship agency operations with drone services. He highlighted how a hybrid ecosystem of launch boats and drones can strength the reliability and efficiency of maritime deliveries.

“The integration of drone technology into maritime operations is a strategic step toward building a smarter, safer, and more resilient port ecosystem. Through collaboration across maritime and aerospace sectors, we can transform concepts into practical solutions that enhance efficiency and reliability.”

After which, Mr. Loh moderated an engaging panel discussion featuring:

The discussion emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration to fully harness drone technology. It highlighted how drones can complement traditional port operations through enhanced surveillance, faster inspections, and efficient ship-to-shore deliveries.

It also explored the future readiness of both maritime and aerospace sectors, noting the need for digitalisation and talent development to support emerging technologies. Policy and technology adaptations were identified as critical enablers for sustainable growth, including regulatory frameworks for autonomous systems and infrastructure upgrades, such as the Maritime Drone Estate, to integrate drones into existing operations. Together, these strategies aim to position Singapore as a leader in innovation and sustainability across interconnected industries.

As Singapore advances toward a smart and connected port ecosystem, SSA remains committed to supporting innovation that drives efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
